In development. The Data Center edition is not released and not for sale. Everything on this page describes the edition as it is being built and planned today. Details can change before release, and nothing here is a promise of a feature or a date.
Many data center sites are air-gapped: the video network has no connection to the internet at all. The Data Center edition is being designed to install and run that way. Every item below is planned.
Planned air-gapped design
| Area | Planned behavior |
|---|---|
| No outbound connections | The server makes no connections outside the site network. Features that need the internet (online update checks, weather data, phone relay) stay off. |
| Offline activation | The license is activated without an internet connection, using files exchanged with J&J Technical Services. |
| Updates from a signed file or USB drive | Updates arrive as signed packages on a file share or USB drive. The server checks the signature before installing and keeps the same backup and automatic rollback as online updates. Updates to the vetted brand list arrive the same way. |
| Local time source | The server and cameras keep time from a clock source on the site network instead of internet time servers, so recordings and audit entries line up. |
| Bundled S.I. models | Every S.I. model ships inside the installer and update packages. Nothing is downloaded at run time. |
| Offline documentation | These guides ship with the software so staff can read them on the isolated network. |
What already works offline in Sentinel today
- Recording, live view, playback, export and S.I. detection all run on the Sentinel server with no internet connection.
- The installer includes everything Sentinel needs, including the S.I. models.
- If there's no internet, the automatic update check fails quietly and tries again later. Nothing else is affected.
Planned install outline
This is the expected shape of an air-gapped install. Final steps will be published with the release.
- Prepare the server on the isolated network, sized for your camera count and graphics cards.
- Bring in the signed installer from J&J Technical Services on removable media your site allows and run it.
- Activate offline by exchanging activation files with J&J Technical Services through your site's own file-transfer process.
- Point time at your local clock source for the server and the cameras.
- Add cameras. Only devices on the vetted brand list connect.
- Apply updates from signed packages on a file share or USB drive when J&J Technical Services releases them.
